The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have three different names
Well, hey, yes... they say that cats have 9 lives and 3 names...
I don't know if we all also have nine lives... or maybe more...
but I know for sure that, just as cats, we all have at least 3 names
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily...
Our public name... the face, the facade, the persona we show the world... this is how we are at work, on the street, at social events... we adapt ourselves to the circumstances... sometimes we become quieter or more refined... sometimes we are affable, presentable, understanding... or... the life of the party...
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
This is our private name... the one only our family and very close friends get to know... oh yeah... we are very different in private than in public... the nice, quiet , firiendly and cordial coworker can become a complete ogre or jerk at home... we burp, we fart, we pick our noses, we scratch ourselves all over, we let our hair down and show ourselves naked... how we really are... nothing to hide... and we feel comfortable... and we don't care... because we know that our family loves us no matter what... and letting them see us that way shows our love for them...
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover -
But the cat himself knows, and will never confess.
Ah... our secret name... the one no one knows about... our secret addictions... our perversions... our messes... economic or otherwise... our deepest fears and phobias... our psychoses... our underworld... our darkest side... the one we only write about in our private blogs and not in our semi public ones, like this one... and we sign only with our aliases... we do things we never tell anyone, only maybe complete strangers who don't have a clue of who we are... things we are not proud of... but we can't help doing...
There you have it... 3 names I have discussed... with 9 lives to go... but I'll leave that for another blog.
